What a strange name! But, in relation to my story, it makes sense: a "tranque" is what stops, clings, pauses; then I must ask myself: where has my clarity gone?* *In the three months that I have been trying to kick off in this corner of the world, I have visited many "beautiful" places. True, they are truly pretty, but, without a soul, and there, for me, everything beautiful dies. A city without a soul, a sea without the smell of the sea.* *At least I have wanted to get to know, to find a way to catch the elusive elf and introduce him to my son. I never felt the despair of my generation to leave my country, but sometimes life presents challenges and opportunities and I find myself doing a master's degree in Latin American literary studies 5914 km away from home. The clash is tough, the nostalgia, the difference between idiosyncrasies and eating manners, but this time has allowed me to grow. Visiting and showing my son a landscape, a story, and a different reality that nourishes him. That's why I took him to **Tranque la luz** Lake, an artificial reservoir that allows for a water reserve to face the water deficit in the Valparaiso region, but also serves as a refuge area for fauna and some species of local flora. *Mi maleta conoció la alquimia de lo simple un día, a fines de septiembre, cuando más ligera de lo nunca imaginado cargó con las cosas menos importantes. Jamás logra una reunir todo lo que realmente vale para un nuevo comienzo. En realidad, eso no lo sabe nadie: ¿qué necesitarías para comenzar de cero en un país del que conoces casi cero, con personas que son ceros y a las que sumar puede tornarse una resta eterna?* *En todo eso piensa una mujer frente al Lago "Tranque la luz". ¡Que nombre tan raro!, pero, en relación a mi historia, tiene sentido: un tranque es eso que detiene, que se aferra, que pausa; cabe entonces preguntarme: ¿dónde ha quedado mi claridad?* *En los tres meses que llevo intentando arrancar en esta punta del mundo he visitado muchos sitios "hermosos". Verdad que son realmente lindos, pero, sin alma, y ahí ya para mí muere todo lo bello que exista. Una ciudad sin alma, un mar sin olor a mar.* *Al menos he querido conocer, buscar el modo de atrapar al duende esquivo y presentarle a mi hijo. Nunca sentí el desespero de mi generación por salir de mi país, pero a veces la vida presenta retos y oportunidades y me encuentro haciendo una maestría en estudios literarios latinoamericanos a 5914 km de mi hogar. El choque es duro, la nostalgia, la diferencia entre las idiosincracias y las formas de comer, más este tiempo me ha permitido crecer. Visitar y mostrarle a mi hijo un paisaje, una historia y una realidad diferente que lo nutra. Por eso lo lleve al lago **Tranque la luz**, un embalse artificial que permite contar con una reserva de agua para enfrentar el déficit hídrico de la zona de Valparaíso, pero que también sirve como área de refugio para la fauna y algunas especies de la flora local. Sentí que este viaje le podría hacer bien a mi niño, que le daría experiencias de conexión con la naturaleza como en efecto fue. La verdad, el lago **Tranque la luz** es un espacio ideal para pasar un día desconectando del bullicio de la ciudad y de la velocidad de la vida metropolitana. En estas vacaciones en lo que comienza el segundo semestre de mi maestría estoy aprovechando para visitar junto a mi niño todos los lugares de naturaleza y culturales gratuitos o económicos a los que da acceso la ciudad de Valparaíso.
